On April 29, the community will gather to celebrate the start of construction of two new London schools and child care centres.

The first of two ceremonies will take place at 1:30 p.m. at 2770 Buroak Drive, the site of the future northwest facility.

The next ceremony will take place at 3:00 p.m. at 3370 Regiment Road, the site of the future southwest facility.

Local members of parliament will join project participants and Thames Valley District School Board representatives at both ceremonies.

Future students of the schools will also participate in the events.

A photo opportunity will take place near the end of each ceremony.

“Thank you to Thames Valley’s Facility Services and Capital Planning team for their incredible work on these projects and to our Board of Trustees for their strong advocacy,” said Director of Education Mark Fisher, “Thames Valley looks forward to welcoming London students and families to these much-needed schools with child care centres.”

“Thames Valley is thrilled to join our government and community partners as well as staff and students in celebrating the start of construction of these two London schools and child care centres,” said school board Chair Beth Mai, “This milestone highlights what’s possible when we work together to address the needs of our growing communities. Thames Valley remains committed to providing quality education for all students and looks forward to the many benefits these schools will bring to the City of London.”

“This investment by the Ontario Government to build two new schools is sure to have a lasting, positive impact on the lives of Londoners for years to come,” said Rob Flack, MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London. “I believe that supporting children with the best education possible is the greatest way to ensure their future success.”

“It’s critically important that we provide working families with state-of-the-art classrooms that are close to home, which is why our government is more than doubling the funding to build new schools; that’s the single largest investment in school building in Ontario history,” said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education. “Our government is proud to fund construction of these two London schools, along with an updated, back-to-basics curriculum focused on core reading, writing and math skills that will prepare Ontario’s young people for the jobs of the future.”

“We are pleased to welcome the construction of two new schools that will include 176 new infant, toddler and preschool child care spaces in London by the Thames Valley District School Board and are proud to collaborate with the Board in this exciting endeavor,” said London-Middlesex CMSM, “We commend the Thames Valley District School Board, the Ministry of Education, and all project partners for a collaborative effort in bringing these important projects to life. These projects reflect the City’s commitment to growing the number of licensed child care spaces to support families. As these projects take shape, we look forward to the positive impact they will have on increasing access to licensed child care and the benefits this care will provide to future generations.”
